Fall Foliage!

There are so many things to love about fall! Comfort food, apple and pumpkin picking, football, and sitting by the fire pit. But one of the most beautiful sights are the changing leaves. The colorful leaves bring a gasp and an “Oh, look at those magnificent colors” every time we head outside. When we walk through our Village condo communities, we love to stop and admire nature at its best.

We can see the stunning colors outside our windows and in our neighborhoods, but where else could we go for a little adventure? How about packing a lunch and heading out somewhere to immerse yourself in the bounty of fall color?

Leaf Peak:
Every year is a bit different, but these are the expected times for peak leaf color.
In Northern Ohio, leaves will peak in color around the end of September.
In Central Ohio, leaves should peak in color the first to second week of October.
In Southern Ohio, peak color should be at the end of October.

What to Do:
Check out the Fall Color Report for our state. This is a perfect way to stay up to date with the peak color around the state.

Take a drive and follow one of these popular routes to see fall foliage at its best. Maybe make a weekend trip out of it.

Climb a watchtower for an ultimate view. Head out to Mohican, Scioto Trail, Tar Hollow, climb the towers and view stunning colors. Better yet, drive to the Holden Arboretum and climb the Emergent Tower. You’ll be in the trees as you climb, coming out above them, with a view all the way to Lake Erie.

Head to our metro parks and state parks for abundant color! Highbanks, Inniswood, and Battelle Darby Creek are a few of our favorite metro parks.  But nothing beats hiking or driving through Hocking Hills!

If you’re looking for some fall foliage with a twist, head to Coshocton on October 21st of 22nd for a Drive-It-Yourself Fall Foliage and Farm Tour. This tour focuses on the history of the area and being able to have an up-close experience of different agricultural enterprises along the route. Find more information here.

Take photos; upload them to your Facebook or Instagram account and add #OhioFall17. Click on the hashtag to see other incredible photos from around Ohio.

What To Do With the Leaves:
We can’t resist picking up colorful leaves when we’re out in nature, but what can we do with them?

Press and preserve the leaves. They won’t last forever, but what fun this would be to do with your kids or grandkids! Or this could be just a fun craft to try on a Sunday afternoon.

DIY Crafting with leaves could involve making a mobile, artwork over the mantel, leaf prints, and more. Find some great DIY ideas here.

In our Village Communities, with condos for sale in Columbus, we pick up the leaves in the yard for you, but if you haven’t moved to one of our communities yet, or if you just want to do something sustainable with the leaves, you can:

  • Use them for mulch or to protect plants from winter’s cold by piling leaves up around your plants.
  • Add them to your existing compost pile or create one.
  • This article and this one have interesting and helpful information for using fall leaves around your garden and yard.

Don’t forget to just have fun! Who doesn’t laugh when we see kids jumping in piles of leaves? So why should they have all of the fun? Raking up a big pile of leaves and then jumping in them or running through them will bring back your childhood!

We’ll be busy doing the work of raking leaves for you – just one of the benefits of living in one of our incredible Village Communities. But that won’t stop you from enjoying fall in all of its splendor!
